Climbing Tools: Snow Anchors / Snow PicketApr 26, 2012
This is a common anchor tool in late summer or west coast snow-packs. The snow has to be pretty bomber to use as a picket. Cascade climbers use this thing a lot. In the Rockies the snow does not usually get strong enough till late summer. It is just another tool! Climbing Tools: Munter Hitch / tyed off MunterMay 19, 2012
This is a very useful belay knot. I have seen people wandering around with 3 or 4 belay devices on their harness and could never figure out why. It is like technology is going to solve eveything for you. Get back to basics and learn the fundimentals of climbing. This knot is certianly one of those. Climbing Tools: Double Fishermans KnotMay 08, 2012
Really nothing more then a slightly more complex single fishermans knot. I know of no research stating that one knot is stronger then the other. You are more likely to use this when hooking two climbing ropes together to rappell. You would also use this for joining cordalette end together to form a loop. CLIMBING TOOLS: Taking in coilsMay 16, 2012
As the terrain changes in the mountains you will often have to change rope lengths to max out your safety. It is common to travel a good distance apart on a glacier or use large amounts of rope when dealing with technical terrain. However when traveling together on a ridge it is often safer and faster for both climbers to take in a few coils. CLIMBING TOOLS: Butterfly Coils - coiling a ropeMay 11, 2012
Coiling a rope in such a way that you can use it for a backpack. The butterfly is a real quick simple method of coiling up your rope so that you can transport it and keep your hands free. Although the McKay method id prefered for mountaineering travel when you are constently changing rope lenghts this method works better in general for everyday use. If you are going to become a proper mountaineer you have to learn all the methods anyhow. COMPANY OF CANADIAN MOUNTAIN GUIDES BANFF CANADA CCMG@MOUNTAINGUUIDE.COM 1 403 760 3344 www.mountainguide.com
Climbing Tools: The Prussik KnotMay 20, 2012
This is a must know knot for any climber. Used for everything from self belay to crevasse rescue. Try this hitch out. It is real easy but believe me you can be really hooped if you don't know it. On the other hand this will get you out of a bind when nothing else will. Common knot for mountaineers who travel light in the big hills. Used to ascend a rope or self rescue out of a crevasse. CLIMBING TOOLS: Vector angles in your anchorMay 01, 2012
Vector angles what are they? I wish that I knew because that would mean that I am smarter then I am now. I have read a great deal about them recently and really do not have a clue other then they are a force of nature and exist within our anchor systems ( in most cases. Despite the fact that 90% of you clip bolts and have very little need to worry about these forces it never hurts to learn a little more. The other 10% of you who will be climbing on so called traditional routes and building anchors out of nuts, cams, pitons and the such will need a reasonable understanding of these forces to maximize your safety. My Deviantart: oceanchan.deviantart.com Helloooo everyone~! Haven't done a copic video in quite a while (very sorry about that) but I am working on it. I hope everyone can please keep in mind that I am only one person and I get many questions a day and requests. Unfortunately I cannot fufill all these requests and most of the time now it is even getting difficult to answer everyone's questions... if you want to do me a really big favour, please check my FAQ on my front channel before asking me stuff. If you have any other questions that aren't there please drop me a PM and I'll get to it as soon as I can. :3 Now onto the good stuff... The subject in this video is Momiji, Anime North's mascot. Anime North is an anime convention located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which I attend yearly (it runs May 28th-20th this year). Most of the time (if I can, it becomes difficult sometimes since there are so little space at the con) I get an artist's table there and sell my work and so people can meet me in person. This year I am not sure if I will be getting a table (registration opens this Friday) but if I do I will make sure to let everyone know with a video~! If all plans go well, I will be selling prints, stickers, keychains, original artwork, and my original manga "Painters" (if I finish it in time OTL). If you cannot make it to Anime North, I will also (probably) be attending Toracon, a small con in Rochester, New York, USA, splitting a table with Sakurachan776. ( sakurachan776 ...
